3 Things To Avoid Doing When You Want a Fresh Start


It’s natural to want a fresh start in life from time to time. After all, this is a big part of the appeal behind the tradition of New Year’s Resolutions.

Ultimately, we are all liable to find ourselves in situations from time to time where we are caught up in patterns and routines that we don’t like, and that we want to escape from. And sometimes, after achieving a goal or living in a way that we previously thought was right for us, we discover that the end result was less fulfilling than we imagined.

Today, there are all sorts of different professionals and services in life aimed at helping people to get a fresh start in one way or another, ranging from things like a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, to professional dietitian services.

When all is said and done, though, it may be just as important to know what to avoid, as to know what to do, when you are striving to make a fresh start. Here are a few things to avoid doing when you want to make a fresh start.

Don’t try to figure everything out before taking action

The thinking mind is extremely devious in many ways, even if on a personal level you’re not devious at all.

The bottom line is that we are all extremely good at coming up with rationalizations for not doing the things that we know we should do, as well as justifications for doing things that we know we shouldn’t do.

Added to this is the fact that “analysis paralysis” is a very real phenomenon — whereby people get themselves so caught up in trying to evaluate a given situation, that they find it all but impossible to actually take action.

Don’t try to figure everything out before taking action. Often, you learn what you need to on the go. If you’re trying to change your life, then start changing your actions as soon as possible. Don’t sit around for years thinking about maybe changing your actions.

Don’t leave your habits unaddressed

Habits are immensely powerful.

While certain major actions can obviously completely transform our lives for better or for worse, what most often ends up shaping the course of our lives are the small habits that we engage in, day after day.

If you want to change your life, you simply can’t get away from the need to change your habits. Use habit trackers, accountability contractors, support groups, and whatever else you need, to undo bad habits and to implement good ones. 

Just don’t leave your habits unaddressed.

Don’t wait until tomorrow before getting started

Making a change in life is usually pretty difficult — even if the change itself is something entirely good, with no obvious cost.

The bottom line is that we all tend to develop “comfort zones” of sorts around what we’re used to — and when it comes to making a change in life, being overly caught up in these comfort zones can make it easy to end up putting off the change “until tomorrow.”Don’t wait until tomorrow before getting started. Do something to get the ball rolling here and now.
