A New Decade And A New Mindset: The Things You Need In Place Before You Turn 40

The new decade is almost here and in just three more years I will be 40. For many people that is a scary number, however, I have already started taking steps to become healthier, happier and more abundant. My 30’s have been a learning experience filled with so much change, so much crazy and a lot of self-learning.

As you progress through your 30s, you start to realize just how important your health is. But what happens is that you think because you’ve got plenty of time to set good habits, your 30s whizzes by, and these things aren’t in place! But what’s more, you are about to turn 40, and you are worried that it’s too late. The fact of the matter is that it’s when we hit 40 that we have to start looking at our health properly but this means that if we are to minimize certain issues, not just in terms of our health, but our mindset, and our lifestyle, we will progress into our 40s healthier and happier. What are the things you need in place before you turn 40?

Insurance

As boring as it sounds when you start to think about the modern world, and the fact that we could very easily get defrauded, robbed, or lose all our possessions due to a fire, insurance is essential. But when we are raising children, we’ve got to think about life insurance. It doesn’t bear thinking about, what would happen if we were to pass away suddenly without life insurance. But for so many people, it can seem almost like a waste of money.

The fact of the matter is, when you’re looking for the best insurance company for your budget, you can factor these things into account. It’s far better to have a life insurance policy that you pay a little bit into every month, so you have that peace of mind.

Health Practices To Last The Rest Of Your Life

It’s in your 40s that things start to creak, or you may worry that a couple of decades of gigs have resulted in you losing your hearing slightly. But it’s at this point that we have to really focus on our health because we’re not as strong as we used to be, and we cannot recover the way that we used to. Health practices aren’t just about your diet, or how many times you go to the gym, but it’s about these lifestyle choices that become a habit.

You don’t need to go to the gym 6 days a week in order to be supremely healthy. They say that as long as you are able to go twice a week, or at the very least, have regular activity, you are able to maintain your health. But if you feel that you need to get stronger or fitter, it’s time to start structuring your life accordingly to fit in going to the gym.

It’s important to remember that you don’t need to go and pump iron; you can do something completely different, but as long as it’s something you enjoy, and you are getting the heart pumping, this is all that matters!

Saving For A Rainy Day

Whether you’ve hit your stride in your career or not you’ve got to start thinking about the future in terms of your finances. You need to start saving for retirement, not just so you can live comfortably, but so the people who depend on you are properly looked after. Learning money-saving tips is always useful, but it’s also about knowing what your attitude is towards money.

Prioritizing Your Mental Health

It’s at this point in our lives that we need to protect our minds a bit more. In one way, getting older means we get wiser. But with various pressures that don’t seem to let up in life, it’s important that you find the right practices to look after your mental health. Perhaps you are always on the go, looking after your children, working, and doing everything in between, that this means that if you feel there is no time for anything else it’s going to start wearing you down eventually.

You need to prioritize your mental health, not necessarily in terms of sitting down and meditating for 20-minutes morning at night because this is impossible. Rather, it’s about finding little practices that you can easily fit into your life that make all the difference. Something like mindfulness is a very good example.

You can start to implement mindfulness practices so you are able to retain a more positive frame of mind, or at least, be aware of what you are truly feeling. Other people try deep breathing because it helps to ease the symptoms of anxiety. The goal is to implement something that you can do every single day.

With a new decade should come a new mindset. Try and prioritize these four things.
