Being single on Valentine’s day can seem like a huge ordeal. After all, it is a day for couples, right? Guess what Valentine’s day is not a day for couples, it was originally a Roman celebration of spring called Lupercalia. You can read more about the history of the holiday here.
Though the celebration did include coupling off men and women. It was not romanticized until the 14th Century. Though now we do tend to celebrate it in a more romantic way. There is a movement that has been growing to also celebrate the single person.
As someone who has always been single on Valentine’s day, I love this trend and I came up with a few things the single girl can do on Valentine’s day that doesn’t involve staying home eating icecream alone. I call it my single girls guide to Valentine’s Day.
7 things to do as a single woman on Valentines Day
Have a girls night in
Get all of your single girlfriends together and plan a night in. Pick a show or movies to binge, have everyone bring snacks and wine to share and you could even make it a pajama party.
Plan a girls night out
Instead of inviting all of your single girlfriends to stay in. Plan a single girl’s date night. Plan to go out to a nice restaurant, have dinner and maybe go see a movie. Whatever you decided to do make sure you have a backup plan in case things get busy where you want to go. My advice, go to a low key dinner so you don’t have to worry about all the couples.
Go on a mini-vacation with a couple of good friends
Plan a relaxing few days away. Maybe you know someone with a cabin you can go to, or you can plan a tropical getaway somewhere that you can relax in the sunshine. Either way getting away with a few single friends is a great way to spend Valentine’s day.
Schedule a relaxing massage or other spa treatment
A relaxing spa day is a great way for any single to spend Valentine’s day. Relax with a massage, pedicure or do the works and get everything done. Either way, you will feel pampered and relaxed. End the day at home with a good movie and a glass of wine.
Rent a hall and have a singles-only party
Do you have a lot of single friends or do some of your friends? Plan a singles party for everyone. In fact, you could even put the party out online and charge people a few dollars at the door to help pay for everything. Who knows maybe you will meet someone you will spend next valentines day with.
Plan a singles-only dinner party
Dinner parties can be a lot of fun and they are a great way to avoid the overly romantic restaurants and still have a great time with friends. Have everyone bring a dish to pass and enjoy each other company. You could even do a theme dinner like Mexican, or BBQ. Have fun with it.
Have a singles Karokee party at your local bar.
If you do want to get together with friends and have some fun, try going to a local bar that does Karokee. It’s a fun time and you can get up and sing as many anti-love songs as you want. If your looking for a more intimate experience find a Kariokiee bar that rents rooms.
I hope that these ideas will help you create a great Valentine’s day for you and your friends. The most important thing is to not worry about not having a boyfriend or girlfriend but to appreciate the other relationships you have. Happy Valentine’s Day!
