Many people view memorial day as the first day of the Summer season, many love that they get a three or four day weekend. Others work all weekend anyway and don’t really care, but these reasons are not why we celebrate this day.
We celebrate to honor our fallen hero’s, the men and women who fought to keep our freedom, to keep our way of life and to help others gain their freedom. The exact origin of the holiday is not known but the official start is in New York and was declared as such by President Lindon B Johnson.
Memorial day Celebrations started after the Civil War, then it was called Decoration day. Until World War I Memorial day was only to honor those who died in the Civil War, but when we found ourselves in another huge war, the idea to make it a day to honor all fallen solders was born.
