How To Stick To A Healthy Lifestyle Even When You Are Busy

Many of us aim to be healthier whenever a new year rolls around. However, it’s easy to lose sight of these goals when the chaos of everyday life sets in. After all, it can sometimes be hard to make time for batch cooking and working out between endless work meetings and running errands. Nevertheless, there are plenty of ways in which you can be both busy and healthy – even if it does mean you have to throw out those takeout menus.

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to stay on top of your health, no matter how busy you may be.

Invest in a slow cooker.

Slow cookers are great for both experienced chefs and those who are just learning their way around the kitchen, as you can prepare meals early in the day and leave them to cook gradually as opposed to having to spend hours in the kitchen each evening. Even better, they are a great way to experiment with new, healthy recipes. For example, you could try out this recipe for slow cooker split pea soup.

Take care of your mental health too.

When it comes to being healthy, we often focus on physical health. However, it’s equally important that you learn to strengthen your mental health, as they are often much more connected than you may initially realize. For example, long-term feelings of stress and anxiety can lead to various health complications further down the line. No matter how busy or hectic your day maybe, you are never too busy to take care of yourself. Even just five minutes of meditation can be instrumental in changing your outlook for the day.

Focus on short bursts of exercise.

Developing quick and effective workout routines is a great way to incorporate fitness into your schedule, even if you don’t have too much free time to yourself. For example, you don’t need to work out for hours and hours every day to see positive results – even just five minutes a day can make a difference. For example, you could take a short walk on your lunch break at work. Not only is this a great way to increase your daily step count, but it can also help you clear your mind and ensure that you are focused and de-stressed when you get back to your desk.

Get enough sleep.

While we all want to get more sleep, it’s one of the first things we neglect when our schedules get busy. For example, you may choose to go to bed later so that we can catch up on work. However, while this may seem like a simple solution, failing to get enough sleep will only have a negative effect on your mind and body in the long run. This is due to the fact that when we are tired, we are less energetic and focused the following day, which could set you even further behind schedule.

Drink more water.

There are many benefits to drinking more water (and you’ve probably heard them all hundreds of times by now). However, despite this, most adults do not drink enough water throughout the day. As a result, if you want to be healthier in the new year, challenge yourself to drink more water. Purchase a reusable water bottle that lets you know how much you should have drunk by a specific time, as this will help you stay motivated on track.

Meal prep ahead of time.

As mentioned previously, one of the biggest challenges associated with following a healthy diet is actually having time to cook and prepare meals from scratch. However, one way in which you can combat this is by meal-prepping ahead of time. For example, if you have a few hours free one evening, you could cook your meals for the rest of the week and store them in your fridge. This way, you only need to reheat them when you get home. Meal prepping can also be useful for those who are trying to experiment with portion control.

Find ways to make your favorite dishes healthier.

Healthy eating does not mean that your meals must be simple and boring. In fact, there are plenty of ways to turn your favorite things healthy. For example, you could swap out flour with whole grains when baking. Alternatively, you could cut down on the amount of oil you use when making certain dishes, as this will not impact the taste but will make the meal healthier.
