Overcome Yourself and Be Amazing

I have been working on improving myself all year. Though the last couple of months have been a bit crazy (more on that in another post) I have still tried daily to do something that will improve my outlook on life and help me create a life I really love.

Today as I sat at my computer trying to figure out something to write about it hit me. I had a huge creative block and I needed to get over it. The good news is I have been working on myself and actually had a few great updates and news to share with you all.

The theme of this post is overcoming your self-doubt and being the amazing person you are. That means this post will not just be about me, but how what I have learned and what I’m going to do can help you become a better you.

Figure out your worst fear and hit it head-on.

For me, my worst fear was being my true self. I had always been taught I had to act and be a certain way and couple that with my anxiety and I just couldn’t be myself. I spent years trying to live up to something that just didn’t matter.

For my readers that don’t know I have worn a wig since I was 17. I have been losing my hair since I was 11. You can read more about my hair loss here: Life, Love, and Wigs: A Struggle With Hairloss.

I did that post in 2017 and even though I put myself out there to do it. I still did not really embrace my difference and how awesome it really is. This year however I am ready to acknowledge that I have a unique opportunity to influence others like me in a way that no one else can. Once I realized that I thought about what I could do. I came up with a plan. I have a youtube channel for this blog that I rarely use. I am now going to revive it and start doing wig/beauty reviews. I will also have other reviews there as well, but my main focus will be wig/beauty.

I’m very excited about this step in my life and dealing with this fear I have that people will dislike me because of my wig. For this step I want you to think about what scares you the most. What can you do to overcome this fear? Write it down, then go do it. Make sure to comment below with what your fear was and how you dealt with it.

Try Something New

This is going to be a hard step for me, I say going to be because as of this post I have not done this yet. I will be leaving my job to work from home full time. There are a couple of reasons for this, but the biggest one is that I have realized that I hate working for other people who make money off my hard work and don’t appreciate what I do. I know that’s the story for many people, but I am willing to take the leap to working from home and actually supporting myself.

This is not completely new to me as I have done it before, but before I had student loans paying my housing. This time I don’t, though I will be living with my sister for a bit to help her out as well, I know I don’t want to stay there forever so I will have to go out and get myself, clients, work harder on my blogs and make the life I want.

Delete your self-doubt

Doing the two steps above will require a bit of planning. You need to address the self-doubt you will have. We are hardwired to think we can’t. The truth is we can do anything if we just think positive. Will doing what we want to always work out? NO! However, we will learn from our mistakes and once you teach yourself that failure and mistakes are okay you will see your world in a whole new light.

Here is what I have been doing to delete my self-doubt

  1. Telling myself every day that I can do something (today it’s writing a blog post)
  2. Changing my thoughts from “I can’t” to “I won’t”. This has been huge for me and I’ve only been doing it for a couple of weeks. I saw this on a youtube video I’m not sure who, but I loved it and it’s changed my life. Try it for yourself.
  3. I’ve stopped comparing myself to others. I am me, I will never be anyone else. We need to start remembering we are all unique and being the same would make the world boring.

Find a mentor

This is a step I have yet to take, but one I am working on. I don’t have positive people in my life. I know I need a mentor to help me reach my full potential, however, I have yet to decide on one. This is my next step and one I hope will help me reach my goals and get the life I really want.

Mentors are a great way to know someone will always be there to encourage you. If you don’t know a great mentor find one online. Youtube is a great way to find people who can motivate you just by watching their videos. This is what I have been doing over the last year or so.

I’m now ready to check into finding a one-on-one mentor. There is usually a charge for this, but since I don’t have that in my life currently I need to make this investment in my future.

No matter what you want to do in life. Making the choice to try to do it is the first and most important step in overcoming yourself and being amazing. Let’s do this together. I would love to hear your story.
