When it comes to your family life, you may find that something is missing. Whether you have children now or not, you may be thinking about getting a family pet. And that’s great. A pet can add so much value to your life and it’s fantastic.
This is very much the case with a dog. It’s like getting another family member. They feel way more than just a pet. However, you do need to make sure that you’re ready with it. You’ll want to be willing to take your puppy or dog anywhere with you and you’ll want to make sure that you know how to look after them.
Puppies can require a lot of time and attention to begin with – including a lot of maintenance. So let’s take a look at what you will want to be doing at least monthly.
Brushing
To start off with, let’s consider brushing. Because, you are going to find that any puppies with long fur will matt. And while you may not be thinking of grooming them too early, it’s important to brush the coat to prevent it from matting – even every day!

Grooming
As a step on from that, we have grooming. If you have a long-haired puppy, you’ll notice that they do need grooming. Not only can they get quite dirty very quickly, but their fur will need to be kept clean and trim. Not all puppies and dogs will need to be clipped monthly – and some will be every 8 weeks. But a monthly bath will help them to stay clean and healthy – and make it easier when you do groom them.
Pest Treatment
The next thing that you’re going to want to make sure that you do is working on the pests that can get to your puppy. Of course, every dog needs to make sure that they are wormed and fleas – but puppies even more so. And more regularly.
Make sure that you find the best tick control for pets products for your needs and that you are then treating them monthly. You can even speak to your vet to find out the best way to do this.

Weighing
Then we have weighed. With a puppy, it is important to ensure they are putting on weight. Checking that they are increasing in weight on a monthly basis can let you know that they are getting enough food and that they are growing at the right rate.
Nail Check
Another thing that you might need to check on monthly or every other month is the nail length. Usually, you’ll want to take a look at this every three to four weeks. As the puppy gets older and if they are playing outside a lot, you may be looking at it more so every six weeks or so. But, it’s good to get a feel for what length nails they are, and how often you think you need to keep on top of them.
