Are you getting back into the dating scene? If so you’re going to have to explore the world of online dating and there are two main choices here – Bumble or Tinder. These are apps that can be downloaded on your phone and they both work more or less the same way. The only difference is that on Bumble the lady messages first and you can access Tinder on your desktop too.
You might be wondering why girls message first on Bumble and it’s quite simple. Guys are far more notorious for spamming sex messages that you may not want as an opener. Bumble has cut this out of the equation completely. Aside from this though, you’ll find a lot of the lessons found in this article are relevant to both. So let’s get started.

The Add And Delete
One of the best tricks of Tinder is to have a conversation – short or long – and then request to move it somewhere else. The popular choices are to text, Whatsapp or Snap. Now, it’s worth pointing out here that this isn’t bad in itself but there are two main problems. First, you might find that they take this opportunity to send unwanted pictures that you can’t do through the Tinder app itself.
Second, it provides them with the option of deleting you from Tinder. This might not seem like a major issue but there is a problem. Unfortunately, it means that they could change their profile. Or, if you do start dating they could claim they deleted Tinder when in reality they just deleted you off it. Now, you could trust them to have been honest but you do really want this worry? It’s best to keep the convo on Tinder until you’re comfortable with the person you have matched with.
Super likes Are Just Weird
Super likes are basically a way to stand out and ensure that you get noticed. The more super likes you get, the more likely you are to appear when people are swiping. So, there is a benefit but most people aren’t interested in it that much. In fact, it can just make things awkward. You might feel the need to explain why you super liked. It’s also likely that someone is going to swipe right to get the super like and then not respond when you start up a conversation.
Many people now explain that any super like they make is an accident which is understandable. It’s pretty close to the ‘like’ button and there’s no going back unless you pay.

Guys Swipe More Than Girls
One of the most popular questions on Tinder is: Why does no one talk? There are several reasons why people won’t talk:
- They’re using it as an ego boost and have no real plans to talk to anyone aside from the odd special exception.
- They have no idea who is meant to message first. One preferred assumption is that the person who matches last should start the convo.
- Accidental swipe – these happen regularly and remember there isn’t usually the chance to go back.
- Guys swipe more than girls.
It’s that last one you need to be aware of. Polls suggest that girls will swipe right about 30% of the time but for guys, it’s closer to 80%. This basically means that unless there is a serious issue with the profile guys are going to say yes.
Unfortunately, this does mean that they are essentially getting as many options as possible and choosing the best one.
What’s The Right Opener?
Another question is how to open a conversation on tinder. You have a few possibilities including:
- A gif
- A pun
- A pickup line
- The simple hello
You’re probably hoping that there’s a right choice here but there isn’t. Something guys should be aware of is that girls who say they love pickup lines are probably just having some fun. They won’t be looking for anything serious and may not even be interested in meeting.
As for girls, there’s less pressure if you want to start the convo first. You just need to be a little creative to ensure you stand out if you think the person is probably a popular right swipe.
Serious Issues
There are a few issues to be aware of on Tinder. First, it’s been suggested that as many as 40% of people on the app are not actually single. They could be involved in what is often described as ethical cheating or they might be completely dishonest. Is there any way to tell? Some will mention it but others you’ll need to recognize the signs. For instance, not being available at all through certain points in the day like late at night is a big red flag for most people.
Another problem is age. Now, you might think that the biggest problem here is people not being honest about their age. Tinder does do a little to help because if you sign up with Facebook it automatically adds your age and you can’t change your age at will. However, it has been suggested that nearly 30% of people using the app are under 18. So, if you are eager to match younger around 21+ always make sure that you get proof of age. Remember ignorance is not a great excuse and you don’t want to end up needing a criminal defense attorney. Guys are more at risk here than girls but teenage boys can be deceptive too.
As well as this, there are plenty of fake profiles that are scams. They want your money, your details or your soul. Live pictures are a must as soon as you move off the app. Others are just looking for follows for their social media.
Does Tinder Work?
People mock tinder quite a lot but the reality is a lot of people find their next great love on here. Short of true serendipity, it’s also one of the only real ways to meet people and get to know someone.
Now if we haven’t scared you off, get swiping and good luck in the online dating realm.
