Time To Move? Tips To Make It Smoother

Moving, marriage, having children, and job changes are some of the most stressful things for people. It makes sense too, it’s a change to the life they know and a leap into some exciting new experiences.

However, like most things, if you have a plan in place, something you can follow along, you are likely to feel calmer and even enjoy the process. So here are some tried and true methods to help you make your house move smoother and more straightforward.

Starting

There are a few things that you’ll need to have in order before you start getting to the meat of the move. Your own home will need to be up for sale, or sold. If it is taking longer than you’d like, or you want a quicker sale, then some companies specialize in answering the question – who will buy my home fast

Budget

While your house is selling, you will need to look at your budget. There are a number of things to think about. Hiring your own van and enlisting help from friends, hiring a full-service moving company, or a mix of those where you hire a van to drive yourself, but hire a moving day team to help pack and load.

Ensure that your budget includes some change for gas, and for food delivery in case you haven’t managed to arrange a grocery shop to coincide with the arrival in the new home.

If you are on a shoestring, then source free boxes, toss as much as you can (less to move, the less it costs), and ask for the cheapest moving date available, search for moving discounts, and if you are moving for work ask the company if there is a % towards the cost.

Timing

The moment you decide to relocate is the moment you should start working through your belongings. This will allow you to make money on the things that work great, but you don’t want to take, donate things that you don’t want anymore, and finally junk all of the excesses. You can start packing now too.

Moving With Children

This is notoriously more difficult to do. You want to keep your children safe, but you have a lot to get on with. If possible, ask a family member to look after your children for a short while, as you work through the house packing, loading the van, and cleaning.

If they are the right age, talk to them about moving and some of the new places that they will see. And, pack a bag full of the kid’s essentials. Batteries and charger cables for electronics to keep them occupied while it is busy, pajamas, cleaning wipes, snacks, and water.

Sentimental Items

Something losing or damaging a sentimental item will happen during a move. Take a walk through the house, and put everything of sentimental value in a bag or a box. And have this placed safely in the truck of your car. That way, you will know it is with you. You can find some great moving planners online, that can help you stay on track, reduce stress, and get you from A to B without a hitch.
