Why Your Blog Isn’t Making Money (And What To Do About It)

Blogging can be a great way to earn a living. But only a small fraction of people manage it. Everyone else has to work other jobs to make ends meet. It’s not ideal. Therefore, in this post, we take a look at some of the common reasons why your blog isn’t making money, and what you can do about it. Read on to learn more:

You Haven’t Defined Your Audience

If you want to make money from your blog, you need to define your audience. You need to get to know the type of people likely to read your content inside out.

This process starts with their demographics. Then you can move on to their interests and personal preferences. The more you can understand them, the more readership your articles will get.

You Aren’t Allowing Guest Blogs

If you’re the purest, you can find it difficult to allow anyone else to post on your blog. It seems like it disrupts the flow and prevents you from communicating with your audience directly. However, you’re also missing out. A white label internet marketing agency might be willing to pay you good money to host their clients’ links on your site.

The trick here is to work with a company that has writers who also understand your target audience. If you can do this, then you can essentially get other people to create interesting blogs for you for free, without you having to do anything.

You’re Chasing New Topics All The Time

Chasing new topics can be a lot of fun for you, but it will likely leave your audience confused and uninterested. Remember, people consume your content for a specific reason. Usually, they’re not interested in breaking new ground with you, unless it’s in your niche.

To fix this, you can conduct a poll or survey. You can also check Facebook groups and forums to see what your target audience is talking about. Reddit can also be an excellent source of inspiration, as can Quora.

You Lack Focus

Lack of focus is another major issue that many bloggers encounter. Instead of discussing the topic in the title, they go off on tangents. Don’t do this. Always deliver the content that you promise in the headline. If you want to talk about something else, write a separate post.

You Don’t Have A Monetization Strategy

Naturally, if you don’t have a monetization strategy, then you’re going to struggle to make any money. It won’t usually happen by chance.

To fix this, you can engage in a range of activities, including:

  • Offering services, such as writing or consulting, through your blog
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Selling digital products, such as e-learning courses, ebooks, and guides
  • Publishing sponsored content or guest posts
  • Selling physical products through a store
  • Hosting banner ads

Most bloggers actually use a mixture of all of these strategies to make money and generate multiple income streams.  Offering services is often an overlooked approach, but a blog can quite easily become your personal marketing platform.
