My Review of Being Unapologetic
Have you ever had a time in your life where even though things are going well, you have a job you love, friends and family surrounding you, you just feel lost. I have been dealing with this recently and when I sat down and started reading Being Unapologetic it was like a lightning bolt. A jolt I had been needing for a while. Something about this book spoke to me.
At first I sat down and thought okay, this is just going to be another self help book, but the more I got into it, the more I had to keep reading. I was amazed at how much I connected with this book. Over the last month or so, my job that I loved so much began to feel like a chore. The men in charge were not listing to me, a mere women, I was actually being cut off whenever I tried to say anything. I started to feel like I wasn’t worth it. That the person I thought I was over the first few months of my job was just a dream, then I read chapter 3: Accepting Yourself.
This is something I have struggled with over my whole life, but for some reason after reading over this chapter I just felt like I was now on a real path to accepting who I am. Almost at the beginning of the chapter it’s stated:
It’s on thing to say, “Just Accept yourself and move on.” It’s a whole other thing to implement that thinking.
It hit me then, that I was not the only one who struggled to accept who I am, I am a 35 year old single women, who has never had a relationship, is over $100,000 in debt and is a cat mom. The best part I think I’m finally starting to be okay with that.
I’m not saying you will have the same moment I did, but what i love about this book is that it’s to the point, brings in many views and really gets you thinking about who you are as a person. Not who you should be according to sociality. That in itself is amazing, we are all different and this book embraces that.
