Food To Cook On A Camping Trip


Heading out for a camping trip can be a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, as well as to make the most of the natural scenery in your local county or town. If you are looking to pack up your edmunds Chevy and head out for an adventure this weekend, we have some great ideas for food you can cook during the stay. 

It is easier than you think to cook great food on a camping trip, and here are some of the best meals you can try this weekend. 

Steak fajitas 

Steak is such a winner on a camping trip, and you’ll have no trouble cooking this on an open fire. Making fajitas around the campfire will keep everyone warm and toasty and can be a fun spectacle! 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 large rump steak 
  • Oil 
  • Salt and pepper 
  • Tortilla wraps 
  • 1 red bell pepper 
  • 1 large white onion 
  • 4 tbsp fajita seasoning 
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée 
  • 200ml water 
  • Sour cream 
  • Guacamole 
  • Salsa 
  • Cheddar cheese 
  1. In a large pan, add some oil, and then add your sliced pepper and onion. Cook for 15 minutes. Once softened, add some tomato purée, water, and half of your fajita seasoning. Cook for a further 10 minutes. 
  2. Season your steak with fajita seasoning, salt, pepper, and oil. Add to a hot dry pan and fry for a few minutes on each side – this will depend how well done you like your steak. Remove and allow to rest. 
  3. Once rested, slice your steak thinly. 
  4. Assemble your fajitas with some pepper and onion, steak, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. 

Chilli con carne 

This easy chili recipe is ideal with pasta or rice, and makes a great jacket potato filling too! 

Ingredients: 

  • 500g lean beef mince 
  • 1 white onion
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes 
  • 400g black beans 
  • 400g red kidney beans 
  • 1 tsp cumin 
  • 1 tsp hot chilli powder 
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika 
  • 1 tsp garlic salt 
  • 1 tsp onion salt 
  • 2 tbsp chopped jalapeños 
  1. Chop up your onion and sweat in a pan for 5-10 minutes. 
  2. Add the beef and spices, and cook through until completely browned. 
  3. Add your beans and stir for a few minutes to heat through. 
  4. Add the jalapeños and chopped tomatoes. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. 
  5. Serve with cheese, rice, pasta, or on a jacket potato. 

Sweet potato curry 

This simple and nutritious curry will be the ideal fuel you need after a long day hiking out in the forest. 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 sweet potatoes 
  • 1 tbsp garam masala 
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste 
  • 1 tsp paprika 
  • 1 tsp cumin 
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes 
  • 1 tin chickpeas 
  • 1 white onion
  • 1 red chilli 
  1. Chop your onion and chilli finely. Add to a pan with oil, ginger paste and garlic paste. Sweat for a few minutes. 
  2. Add your spices into a small bowl and add some water, mix to make a paste. Add this to your pan and stir until fragrant. 
  3. Chop up your sweet potato and add to the pan, add your chickpeas and stir for a minute. 
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and 150ml water and cover with a lid. Simmer for 20-25 minutes. 
  5. Serve over rice or with some freshly made naan bread.
